Writing Desk by Jack Cartwright for Founders with Micarta Top

This is a fabulous and rather rare writing desk designed by Jack Cartwright for Founders furniture. While Founders was a subsidiary of Thomasville furniture (Top Quality American Furniture), the designs from Jack Cartwright draw heavily on the Danish traditions of the mid 20th century. His work could easily fit into the catalogues of any major Danish Furniture company. In fact, this desk is very similar to the vintage Arne Vodder writing desk often seen for sale on the internet. Honestly, I have sold several of the Arne Vodder writing desks over the years and this is every bit as nice and possibly better.

This desk is usually described as Walnut but the slight reddish / orange tint put it into the color spectrum of Teak. Over the years I have had several older Teak pieces with similar coloring. There is a possibility that this is actually Teak, but I have no way to confirm that and most of the Founders pieces designed by Jack Cartwright are described as being Walnut.

The desk features the original Micarta top with dovetailed drawer construction. Micarta is a hard, smooth, durable composite material made of a base material suspended in epoxy resin. Some sellers have mistakenly called this top “Slate” as it does look a bit like slate. The color of the Micarta is a very dark, nearly black, speckled gray.

DIMENSIONS:  54.25″ Wide  x  24″ Depth  x  29.25″ High

CONDITION: As stated above this is in excellent condition with no damage or issues. Only upon very close examination can slight signs of use be found. The Micarta top is clean, smooth and free from damage, but it does have a few areas where the finish is not exactly consistent. Hard to see

FREE DELIVERY: I can deliver to the DC, North Virginia and Baltimore area for FREE.

SHIPPING: Over the years we have developed a short list of honest and trustworthy independent trucking companies that specialize in the safe delivery of fine antiques and collectible furnishings. We do not use unknown “freight forwarding” companies or “UShip” providers. We only work with professionals whom we have learned to trust through years of safe service. The companies on our short list are fully insured and offer VERY good pricing. I can usually get a piece this size shipped to NYC for around $350 – $400. California is usually around $450 – $550 (additional waiting times can apply). I can normally send an item like this to Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Florida and as far west as Texas for around $300 – $399. If you are SERIOUS, please contact me for an accurate shipping quote to your location.
